Outpatient treatment is one of our core eating disorder treatment programmes, enabling you to continue working, attending school, and living your everyday life while receiving structured treatment for an eating disorder. Designed to accommodate your unique needs, availability, and recovery objectives, outpatient treatment combines excellent clinical care with flexibility.
Outpatient treatment allows you to continue with work, study, and family life while receiving specialist care for an eating disorder. It is delivered by the same team as our Day Care programme, ensuring the same standard of clinical quality within a treatment structure that is compatible with your needs.
Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment by a member of our team, from which we can develop an individualised treatment plan tailored to your circumstances and recovery goals. This plan can include a variety of different specialist treatment approaches, such as individual therapy, dietetic support, or a combination of elements drawn from the breadth of expertise of our multidisciplinary team.
Some people follow a therapy-led plan; others benefit from a wider combination of support. We will always discuss the reasoning behind your plan with you and involve you in decisions about your care. Our team will also regularly review your progress and make all necessary adjustments as your recovery develops.
Outpatient eating disorder treatment might be suitable if you do not require the clinical intensity of Day Care or are benefiting from ongoing structured support. It is equally suitable if you are in the early stages of recognising a difficulty or stepping down from a more intensive programme.

“One of the key benefits of outpatient treatment is that patients can continue with work, study, or family life alongside their treatment; recovery doesn’t have to mean pressing pause on everything else.
We see patients make real, sustained progress through this level of support, and having a specialist team around them at this stage makes a significant difference to both their confidence and their clinical outcomes.”

No, we create personalised treatment plans that accommodate your unique needs and commitments. We can also organise hybrid programmes that combine elements of Day Care and outpatient support, ensuring an effective, adaptable delivery model for eating disorder treatment.
Day care is an effective treatment programme suitable for anyone with an eating disorder. Those who require more clinical intensity can find it particularly supportive, but it is a viable option for anyone seeking help.
No, it is only a misconception that patients must be underweight to join an eating disorder day care programme. At ABBI Clinic, we know that only a minority of patients are significantly underweight when they come to us, and it is those who do not yet exhibit signs of physical harm that can benefit most from our support.
