Every treatment plan is different

Everyone who comes to us for support is different, and we know that your experience of living with an eating disorder will be unique to you. For this reason, we never take a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach with our treatment. Instead, we ensure the treatment plan we create for you is tailored to your needs, circumstances, and preferences.

Once we select the appropriate treatment programme and delivery approach for you, we will determine the specialist clinical, nutritional, and practical approaches we think will be most beneficial to recovery. Some people will have all of the therapies and specialist sessions discussed on this page included in their care; others will have a carefully selected combination. However your plan looks, our team will always explain the reasoning and involve you in decisions about it.

What might your treatment plan look like?

Individual therapy

Individual therapy sessions give you dedicated one-to-one time with a specialist psychological therapist. Sessions provide a confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may underlie your eating disorder and to develop practical strategies for supporting your recovery.

The therapeutic approach will be tailored to your individual needs, helping you understand the connections between your thoughts, emotions, and eating behaviours while building skills to challenge and change unhelpful patterns over time.

Group therapy

Group therapy sessions bring you together with others on a similar journey in a structured, safe, and facilitated environment. Sessions create space for sharing experiences, building skills, and supporting one another.

For many people, the sense of connection and mutual understanding that develops in group work is one of the most meaningful parts of their recovery. Groups can also help you develop the confidence and resilience to manage life after treatment.

Family therapy

Family therapy involves working with you and the people closest to you to explore how relationships and home dynamics may be contributing to your eating disorder and build frameworks for supporting your recovery.

Sessions help your family to understand what you are going through, communicate more effectively, and create an environment at home that reinforces the progress you are making in treatment. For younger patients, family therapy is often a central part of the plan.

Dietitian support

During individual sessions with a specialist eating disorder dietitian, who works closely alongside the rest of your treatment team, you will work towards rebuilding a healthy, flexible relationship with food, addressing any nutritional concerns, and developing practical eating skills that you can carry forward after treatment.

Dietetic support is closely integrated with your psychological therapy to ensure that your physical and emotional recovery move forward together.

Meal support

Supported mealtimes are a core part of our Day Care programme and an important element of treatment for many people. You will prepare and eat meals in a supportive, structured group environment, with your clinical team present throughout.

These sessions provide an opportunity for putting the skills you are learning in therapy into practice in real time, with immediate support available. Post-meal support is also provided to help you manage any difficult emotions or behaviours that arise after eating.

Psychiatry

If you are on a Day Care programme, you will be seen by a Consultant Psychiatrist as part of your initial assessment, and psychiatric oversight will continue throughout your treatment where clinically indicated.

This treatment includes monitoring your mental and physical health, reviewing medication where appropriate, and ensuring your treatment plan remains safe and effective as your recovery progresses.

Nursing

Our mental health nursing team provides clinical monitoring and practical support throughout your treatment. Regular physical health checks, including weight monitoring and medical observations, are carried out by our nurses, who are present throughout the day.

The nursing team plays an important role in keeping you physically safe during your recovery and is always available to you during your time at the clinic.
